1. Match the hinge to your glass thickness
This is the single most important step, and the most overlooked. Frameless shower hinges are engineered for a specific glass range β typically 8mm, 10mm, or 12mm tempered glass. A hinge rated for 8β10mm will not seat correctly on 12mm glass, and forcing it risks cracking the panel at the drill point.
- 6β8mm glass: light residential doors, smaller hinges.
- 8β10mm glass: the most common frameless specification worldwide.

2. Pick the right hinge type for the door geometry
Not all hinges move the same way. The three configurations cover almost every enclosure:
Wall-to-glass (wall mount shower hinge)
The standard for a door hinged off a tiled wall. Choose 90Β° for a square return or 135Β° for a neo-angle corner.
Glass-to-glass hinge
Connects two glass panels with no wall anchor β ideal for inline panels and return walls. Available in 90Β°, 135Β°, and adjustable variants.
Hinges with or without spring

3. Brass vs stainless steel β what actually matters
Both are excellent; the right choice depends on environment and budget.
- Brass (e.g. KN917-series fittings): denser, naturally corrosion-resistant, takes PVD finishes beautifully, and feels premium. Best for design-led projects.
- Stainless steel (304/316): maximum corrosion resistance for coastal or high-humidity installations; 316 is the marine-grade choice.
4. Don't underestimate the surface finish
The finish is what the end user sees every day. Beyond aesthetics, quality finishing protects the base metal:
- Chrome & Brushed Nickel: classic, easy to match with taps and rails.
- Matte Black & PVD Gunmetal: on-trend, and PVD coatings resist scratches and fading far better than plated finishes.
- Champagne Gold / Brushed Gold: premium hospitality look.

5. Check load capacity and certification
A frameless door can weigh 30β50kg. Confirm the hinge's rated load (per pair) exceeds the door weight with margin. For commercial or export projects, look for ISO 9001 manufacturing and third-party salt-spray / cycle-test reports. These documents matter when a distributor or builder audits your supply chain.
6. Match the rest of the hardware as a system
A hinge is only one part of the enclosure. For a coherent, reliable result, specify the full set from one source:

- Door handles & knobs (back-to-back or single-sided)
